Licensed Psychologist for Wayne County

I recently met and vetted licensed psychologist, Robert Wayne Gorman. He was referred to me by Senior Counseling Services LLC. I was looking for a counselor who took Medicare and Medicaid and in particular just members with Medicaid only. He has over 30 years of experience and specializes in substance abuse, family relations, depression and anxiety. His therapeutic approach is Humanistic, with an emphasis on spirituality. He is Caucasian. He has a private practice in Wyandotte but will come to member’s apartment for therapy. He is also available to present at a workshop on mental health issues and the benefits of counseling. He requested only referrals from Service Coordinators in Wayne County facilities. He would prefer creating a caseload between several buildings to avoid having to make single trips to facilities. Please feel free to contact him at 734-365-4119 cell or at wgorman@wyan.org

A Medicaid Manual

I recently attended the all day Medicaid Boot Camp sponsored by Elder Law of Michigan. The workshop was probably the most valuable one I have attended this year. I am providing the two sites that include the slide presentation and a downloadable Medicaid manual called :A Primer on Michigan’s Medicaid Program written by attorney David L, Shaltz. I recommend this resource to all Service Coordinators as an excellent tool for identifying terms, eligibility and programs that are part of the complex Medicaid system. Veterans’ Advocate

Melody Sorrell came to LaBelle and discussed the services and benefits she can provide for members who are Veterans. Melody is a Veteran and established her non-profit agency called Ashley’s Angels to help members navigate the complex Veteran system. Melody has a wealth of knowledge about how to get members all the Veteran benefits that they are entitled to and establish their eligibility. Melody is able to get through the Veteran system much easier than Service Coordinators because of her contacts and experience as a Veteran. Melody is helping several LaBelle members who needed crisis intervention services and was instrumental in helping them find solutions to difficult situations. Melody welcomes your calls and is willing to meet with Service Coordinators at their buildings. This resource was vetted by Victoria. Contact information for Melody:

What is Chap and What is Medicare Certified

I thought this information might be helpful to understand these two categories that are part of our vetting terminology.

What is CHAP?
CHAP is an independent and non-profit accrediting body created in 1965. CHAPS’s goal is for home care to not only prosper, but gain strength in the overall health care industry. To become CHAP certified an agency must undergo four steps. During the Application process the agency undergoes an evaluation to determine eligibility for accreditation. Following this process, the agency applying undergoes a Self-Study. The study is a comprehensive internal evaluation and review of the organization’s operations in preparation for the site visit. The Site Visit team is comprised of health care professionals, highly experienced in their respective fields. The site visit provides assistance to the organization, while ensuring compliance with the CHAP Standards of Excellence and other regulatory requirements. The complete accreditation consists of strict evaluations over a period of three years and is completed with a Review by the board of professionals.
What is Medicare Certified?
A Medicare-certified home health agency is one that has met the federal minimum requirements for patient care and management, and therefore can provide Medicare and Medicaid home health services. Individuals requiring skilled home care services usually receive their care from a home health agency. Due to regulatory requirements, services provided by these agencies are highly supervised and controlled.
Information provided by Comprehensive Home Health Care’s website.

Home Chore Worker List of Allowable Duties

I obtained this list from the PACE program so that my member would know what the worker can and cannot do. It is probably a good list to go by for expectations of most home chore workers allowable tasks because of time and liability.
