Cooking for One

Hello out there!

I just received this handy cookbook from Hospice of Michigan.

Hospice of Michigan A Meal For Me Cookbook

It is quite extensive and obviously for those who have recently or maybe not so recently lost. It also contains some nifty quotes that may be comforting.  Example: “Laughter is free, legal, has no calories, no cholesterol, no preservatives, no artificial ingredients, absolutely safe.” Kind of nice. Maybe you can use it, maybe one of your residents can use it. Recipes rule.

Peace.

Food Pantry & Commodity Food Distribution Educational Presentation

Our next educational presentation about ways to cope with low SNAP/Bridge card benefits should be fun! One presenter and I are cooking a few recipes to sample, from common foods provided to the impoverished community. Print outs of these and other recipes will be provided. The goal is to inform & help people who have not gone to a food pantry et c. to be more comfortable to try it out. With that first step, they may keep going and save money & eat well.

Educational Presentation at Washington Square Co-op

Ellen Russel from the Kalamazoo Farmer’s Market will be providing a educational/wellness presentation on August 28, 2012 at 2pm here at Washington Square Co-op.  She will be sharing information with the members regarding the secrets of growing herbs and keeping them as well as valuable information regarding the farmer’s market!!  (The wonderful thing about our local farmer’s market is that it is within walking distance of our co-op.)

Ellen had some incredible ideas for activities for the members.  She suggested growing herbs in the garden and making pesto for personal use, as well as gifts.  Ellen also revealed the notion that members could grow flowers, dry them and provide for holiday potpourri gifts as well.  I will be sure to share her other ideas as well!
