HAP Information

Question:

Could you please tell me what/who the new health insurance provider is? If you have any information on what services are covered under the new plan, I’d gladly take that too.

Also, I don’t know anything about the retirement 401k, but I’d like to. For example, when do I begin making contributions and what, if any, is Hannan’s contribution?

Answer (provided by Michelle Minter):

The new health provider is HAP PPO.  You should receive your cards within the next two weeks or so.  In the mean time, you can contact Jennifer at Professional Benefits Planner.  Her number is 1-586-445-8802.  I  do have information on the benefits offered, and I will scan it and send it out shortly.

As for the retirement 401K, it is under construction, so I don’t have anything that I can share with you yet. You must work a minimum of 1000 hours (per calendar year) in order to accrue benefits.  But as I mentioned, the plan is under construction.  I am sure that the board will approve a new plan within the next couple of months and have everything set up and ready by July 2013.

Being Sick

Question:

What is flu and cold protocol?

Answer:

My advice is that if you have the flu, stay home and get better. Because older adults have weaker immune systems and flu shots lose efficacy with age, the best antidote for the flu is to limit exposure. Please use your PTO for this. Call, text, and/or email me when you know you need to take a PTO day. Also communicate work changes to the front office, your liaison and Shiela.
If you need the hours and are feeling a bit better, you can talk with me about doing some work from home (not with client files though). If you have a cold and wish to go to work, try to limit exposure to senior members. Keep your office door closed and post a note indicating that you are working, but feeling under the weather. You can suggest members contact you via phone if they want to meet that day.
I’m open to other good suggestions from SCs. The team has been doing an excellent job of communicating schedule changes to me in a timely matter and I have noticed and really appreciate it!

Coping with the Holidays

Washington Square will have an educational presentation by Hospice of Southwest Michigan.  The presenter, Layla Jaboori, will inform about the grieving process, especially when faced with holidays, throughout the year.  For instance, if they visited every 4th of July, then that holiday may be a trigger, and not the December holidays.   Many members are grieving and missing someone special.  They may find the holidays especially difficult to enjoy.   There will be open discussion about member’s traditions, and they may make and take a memory keepsake.

SCoop Facelift

Hello SCs- During our peer writing workshop last week, the SCs decided to add a category to the SCoop to share documentation samples and templates. It is under “Reference”/”Templates for Documentation.” We also added a few other changes to the SCoop menus and categories, including a special area to post Hannan Senior Classes (“Company News”/”Hannan News”/”Hannan Classes”), and renamed a few of the main menu items so that they are hopefully more user-friendly.

We plan to hold a hands-on tutorial in January 2013 to allow SCs the opportunity to become more familiar and comfortable with using the SCoop.  The date and time for the tutorial is yet to be determined, but it will correspond with our professional development training for the month. As always, we (Renee and Alexa) are open to any additional feedback that you may have to improve the SCoop.

Welcome Victoria!

Greetings All,
I’m pleased to report that Victoria Haltom, LLMSW, will be joining the Hannan Service Coordination Team on Monday, November 19th. Victoria will be working full time at Labelle Towers Co-op with Diane. I’ve attached an updated CSI SC contact list with her contact information (also on Shared Drive).
Victoria brings a creative background to the team, having worked as the Orchestra Director for two Detroit Metro School Districts, the Conductor of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony and as concert violinist for the Michigan Opera Theater! Most recently, Victoria has interned with Spectrum Human Services (including Operation ABLE) as part of her MSW program.
Please help us welcome Victoria to the Service Coordination Team. If you have an event at your Co-op or Village that you feel would be of interest as she conducts her orientation, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

ACA Volunteer of the Year Award accepted by SC Ting Chang

I’m pleased to pass on the wonderful news that Ting Chang, part time Service Coordinator at Madison Heights Co-op, accepted the Volunteer of the Year award from the Association of Chinese Americans at their 40th Anniversary Celebration.

Co-Service Coordinators Harriet Harris, Kari Wilson, and Katherine Simpson were present at the ceremony representing Hannan and ACA.

Ting and Katherine work for ACA and assist Hannan with 8 hours of bilingual Mandarin/English service coordination at Madison Heights Co-op. Their contributions to our program are vital to working with the members of Madison Heights Co-op, 30% of whom are Chinese American.

Way to go Ting!
