MI Bridges Benefit Applications Client Handout

Here’s a document to members with the MI Bridges Application. This form allows them to write down and organize their user id, password, secret question/answers and tracking number. Karen and I received this info. in a MI Bridges training session so I wasn’t sure if you all had it or not. I used it this morning and it helped immensely 🙂

CSI Rally Picnic: Membership required

From Sharon at CSI:

I just received an email from Rachel at Hannan Foundation letting me know that one of our co-ops invited the service coordinator to attend the Rally Picnic.

The Rally Picnic is only for members or non-housing members that have purchased the $100 membership. I did invite the service coordinators to pay the $100 and become a member. Also, if a SC does become a non-housing member and attends the Rally Picnic and/or the Annual meeting he or she will not be paid by the co-op (thru Hannan)while attending the event.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome Brenda Carney!

I’m pleased to announce that we have selected Brenda Carney as our new Assistant Director of Service Coordination at Hannan, and she has accepted in writing!

Brenda will be starting on Monday, July 23rd, and will be joining us for our 9am Hannan staff meeting (non-SC staff).

On Tuesday, July 24th, the PVM SCs are invited to a PVM SC meet and greet with Brenda, Rachel and Cheryl at 9am. This will serve as a SC meeting too. Amy Smyth has invited Brenda and I to attend the PVM SC meeting hosted by John at Holly on Thursday, July 26th, 10am-12noon.

CSI SCs, you’ll have two opportunities to meet Brenda during her first week. On Wednesday, July 25th, Hannan will be hosting the Detroit Hoarding and Cluttering Task Force meeting from 2-4:30pm. We are inviting Detroit-area Service Coordinators to participate in the AASC Webinar on hoarding in the Gallery. You are all invited (PVM SCs too). This is an optional workshop, so please confirm one way or the other. I’ll send out a separate e-invitation on this. Additionally, Brenda will participate on our CSI SC Conference Call. Please note that I will need to shift the conference call that week from Thursday, July 26th, to Tuesday, July 24th, 12noon-1pm. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

Brenda has spent her full career in geriatric social work, primarily in LTC and mental health, but with a keen focus on aging in community. She is also an adjunct instructor of social work at Marygrove. Moreover, she is very nice and a team player. We look forward to working with her.
There will be a transition as Brenda comes on board, with the goal of her becoming the direct supervisor for the Hannan SCs working in PVM Villages. She’ll also be our liaison to the Hannan/PVM Strategic Alliance. Brenda will be cross trained with the CSI SC program, because she and I will be supportive to both programs and work together so that the programs can continue to learn from each other and collaborate to the greatest extenet possible.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Rachel

In-home counseling

Have a member considering mental health counseling? Here’s a list of in-home counseling providers who charge Medicare, Medicaid, and also have sliding scale. Jim Karagon, who facilitated a session during orientation, is one of the counselors, but is affiliated with this larger group.

Save or Shred?

A group of WSU students hosted a “Save or Shred” event here at Hannan a couple years ago. The intent was to help seniors determine which documents they could get rid of when organizing their paperwork and then shred them in a safe manner. I have the “how to” manual to lend to anyone interested in working with the co-op to hold a similar event. Below is an easy cheat sheet for helping members figure out which of their items can be disposed of. Members are welcome to bring their files to your office for assistance with organizing and purging. You should, however, let the member be the person who actually inserts their document in the shredder. This is important for two reasons. First, it places the responsibility on the member for choosing to destroy the document. Second, it gives them the satisfaction of shredding the document! Small pleasures in life include shredding…..
