Wii Bowling Tournament

For those of you with avid Wii Bowlers at your Village, you may want to consider entering them in the 2013 National Senior League Will Bowling Championships being held from August 12 through October 18th.  The NSL is an internet Wii bowling league, so teams play at their own communities. No travel is involved.  There is a $150 community registration fee that allows you to enter as many teams in the tournament as you would like.  For more information follow this link: http://www.nslgames.com/.

Request to end or adjust child support payments

www.mfia.state.mi.us/ChildSupport/policy/resources/DHS-681.gov

DHS-681 Request to Discharge State-owed Debt

Our members have very low incomes!  This form could  assist seniors who are paying child support payments because their now adult children were the recipients of public assistance and the State is recouping their funds.  Their children do not receive the money that the State has FOC deduct from the Social Security payments.  The Social Security Administration (SSA) just follows the court orders.   Once completed, the member submits the form to the Friend of the Court office where their court order is located…in one case, a member had 2 court orders, each in a different county.  Both FOC’s needed to receive a form.  So I made a couple copies of the completed form, and had him sign each one.  He took them from there.  Maybe he will not have half of his Social Security payments deducted, now!

Welcome to the June 2013 issue of Wayne SEEDLING! It is being released earlier than usual in anticipation of our Wayne State Farmers Market’s Grand Opening June 5, 11 am, at 5201 Cass Avenue. The newsletter is attached here as a PDF, and will soon be available on SEED Wayne’s website (we’re experiencing server problems).

This issue of SEEDLING includes the following:
1. The Wayne State Farmers Market, which welcomes our 6th season on June 5 (page 1). Please come by and say hello to our vendors and program staff and volunteers!
2. St. Andrew’s Garden, in which 32 students, staff, and guests work 19 plots (page 1).
3. Summary of research on sustainable food system (SFS) activities at 22 urban public universities that shows how unique SEED Wayne is among peer universities’ SFS initiatives (page 3)
4. SEED Wayne thanks its friends for their generous gifts over the last five years (page 4)
5. Plus, the usual, SEED Wayne partners on page 2, and a Calendar of Events on page 3.

In addition, we’re also launching the first of our ‘Healthy Eats @ Wayne State Farmers Market’ Newsletter, which accompanies our nutrition workshops and other educational activities at the WSU Farmers Market. Published every other week until mid-September, hard copies of the newsletters will be available at the WSU Farmers Market and at midtown senior centers, Woodbridge Manor, Brush Park Manor, Warren Plaza, and Hannan House. An electronic copy is attached for your reading pleasure–it includes interesting information on two market favorites and also a great market recipe! Join us for a nutrition workshop with tasting samples available, during the lunch hour at the market.

Apologies in advance for duplicates or cross-postings. Please contact me at k.pothukuchi@wayne.edu with any comments or questions.

Golden Supports Club for Downriver Communities

See attached flyer on The Information Center’s Golden Supports Club for Downriver Communities.

Additional information provided by Maryanette:

David Wilson the Director of the Golden Supports Club did call back.  He stated the program is connected with the MiChoice Waiver Service and is for those who are not medicaid eligible and have to pay out of their own pockets.  They work with provider to decrease the amount or cost of a service.  They provide an on-going-coupon discount for the term of their membership which is an annual membership. He did not say if there was a membership fee (note: flyer indicates $200). When I asked about assessing the services of their providers he answered that they provide the member with a Directory of  Providers enrolled in the network.  They are not involved in selecting a provider.  The provider will bill the member, the member will get bills as normal and will be responsible for making sure they receive the discount.  For further clarification you can contact David Wilson.  He can be reached at his direct number which is (734) 287-7818.
