If you have a technical hardware or software maintenance issue (that is NOT zimbra, shared drive, or AASC Online related), please direct your inquiries through your Liaison and cc Sheila. Please do not contact Gary Teal directly.
Please continue to contact npserv for issues related to using your email, calendar, and remote connection/shared drive. npserv is at itsupport@new.org or 734-998-0160 x513.

CSI Co-op Liaison Mission

Hi All,Here’s more information from Sheila about the role of your liaison at the Co-op.

Liaison Duties/Mission Statement
Liaisons are an important link between the co-op and CSI Support. They provide the volunteers with the right tools (training, resources and support) to run and maintain their own co-ops. This has allowed for CSI to maintain its vision of providing low-income cooperative housing while allowing seniors to maintain an active and independent lifestyle.

Liaison mission statement: A liaison is responsible to promote the belief in the cooperative principles and to assist in creating a strong community. This is accomplished by providing continuous education to empower all members to participate in the management of their cooperative while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude by using the democratic control system where every member has a vote.
Purpose: Liaisons support, encourage, educate and guide our members in the orderly management of the cooperative community.

Liaison Duties:
• Assist in providing an open and civil environment in the exchange of ideas.
• Know and understand federal, state and local fair housing, HUD and CSI guidelines.
• Educate and participate in the planning and implementation of co-ops and apartment inspections, for long range planning and according to Housing Quality Standards.
• Regularly review, understand and explain co-ops’ monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Create and present educational and workshop material.
• Encourage a team approach to problem solving.
• Serve as adviser at co-op meetings as appropriate (including council, general, leasing and finance meetings).
• Monitor waitlist, occupancy and marketing of each co-op.
• Respond when needed to co-op emergencies.
• Communicate and report overall co-op status to the CSI office.
• Prepare for and follow up on management occupancy reviews and REAC inspections.
• Through innovation and enthusiasm, help the co-op maximize volunteer participation.
• Promote networking within the co-op community.
• Carry out any other duties to help fulfill our statement of purpose and mission.

CSI Liaison Satisfaction Survey

The survey that I have attached here is the survey that was just approved to send to all Liaisons with SC programs in their buildings.  We have also asked Sharon and Sheila to complete one as well for their larger view.  They have been emailed the survey this am to complete on each building and will return it to me completed by email or fax.  We indicated to them in a memo that this is something we do yearly and that their responses will be kept confidential.  Only myself, Rachel and Brenda will see the individual responses just so they feel free to share.  We will share back with all of you the aggregate responses which will also be shared with Anne and Sheila at CSI and with HUD.

Thanks so much for your participation in the quality assurance processes.  It really is a teamwork effort!

Please call or email if you have questions or ideas for improving the surveys for next year.  Cheryl

CSI Live -in Aide Requests and Reasonable Accommodation Requests

Question from SC to CSI:

I am working with a member that recently had to go to the ER and was told by the doctors that she should not be living alone. The member’s daughter has become a live-in caretaker for the member for an indefinite amount of time. Thus far, it has been no more than one week. I need to be advised on what, if anything, needs to happen on my end. What should be communicated to the member and her daughter? I have obtained a consent to release information form from the member in order for me to talk to Sharon, the Liaison, and CSI. I am going to fax the form to CSI after I send this email. The member’s daughter recently went to the main office and spoke with one of the officers – not the president -and was asked to sign a form and given a key fob and key to be able to come and go. The key has a red tag attached to it. The building president told the member’s daughter today that whomever gave her the key had done so erroneously, and that this woman should not have the key. I stated to the member that I would look into the situation and report back to them but that due to the medical conditions of the member that the daughter should continue to care for her as she has been doing and that I will get back with her soon to advise them of what needs to happen next.

Answer from Sharon, CSI:

Live -in Aide Requests and Reasonable Accommodation Requests must be referred to the liaison and the president. Please ask the member to contact them. This is not an area where the service coordinator provides assistance.
Good question. Please refer to your manual tab 4 and the bottom of the memo dated 5/3/2006 from Anne Brandenburg a/k/a Sackrison.

Monthly CSI Liaison Meetings – Tip of the Week

i.      Role of Liaison is to call your monthly meeting, but co-op culture is that they liaison isn’t responsible for assuring the members take responsibility for attending  (this is true of any co-op meeting, including council meetings).  You can broach the idea of whether it would be a good idea if somebody made reminder calls the day before your monthly meetings to assure more representative participation. This cannot be the liaison or the SC, so a co-op member (the President, FCRC Chair, or Education Chair) would have to volunteer to do this.

ii.      Please bring your co-op specific contact sheet to your next monthly meeting and update it with your new co-op leadership and any missing information. Please update the sheet and resave it to the shared drive so that we all have access to the updated information (this is especially important for your substitute SC and me). Thanks.

iii.      Please ask for updated House Rules and Bylaws if they have changed since your start date. Please give me a copy of the new ones. You won’t automatically receive updates, so it’s a good topic for monthly meetings.
