Description:

Roberta Habowski, Mobility Project Manager at the Area Agency on Aging 1-B will present “The Older and Wiser Driver” from the AAA Foundation and discuss strategies and resources to help seniors stay on the road as long a safely possible and planning for driving retirement.

Katherine Freund, founder of the Independent Transportation Network (ITN), will present on how caregivers and family can help seniors transition to the passenger seat and create sustainable transit for seniors. This workshop will also serve as an introduction to iTN

ITNMetroDetroit, is a new community-based non-profit, private automobile, transportation alternative      that enables older and sight-impaired adults remain mobile despite their own driving limitations. Transportation is offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for any purpose within the service area.

 

  • Are you friendly and reliable? Enjoy the company of seniors?
  • Do you live in or near Oakland County ?
  • Do you own a car? Have you had your license for at least 3 years?
  • Do you have a good driving record?
  • If you answered yes……volunteer to drive!

Help someone retire their car, not their independence!

You’ll receive training and we’ll arrange your driving assignments around your schedule.

There’s a pick up charge and a mileage charge. The minimum charge is approximately $7. No tipping allowed.

You can try the service while you still own and operate a car.

The road to mobility begins with an annual membership fee of $50 and a prepaid Personal Transportation Account™ based on estimated usage. Since you don’t pay cash and we only use private automobiles, riding with ITN is more like riding with a friend than taking a taxi.

Customer service and consumer choice are paramount. You can plan in advance or ride on demand; ride alone or share a ride; ride by the hour or by the mile.
