Double Up Bucks at Farmers Markets Statewide

Just a reminder to tell your senior clients about Double Up Food Bucks. When a person eligible for food assistance uses his or her Bridge Card to purchase food at a Farmers’ Market, the amount of money he or she spends is matched with Double Up Food Bucks bonus tokens that can be used to get Michigan-grown fruits and vegetables! Detroit’s Eastern Market

The Tuesday Detroit Market at Eastern Market is super senior friendly. Though it doesn’t have the sheer number and variety of vendors as they do on Saturdays, it is far less crowded and most of the vendors are locals who love to talk with people. They are really trying to get seniors back down to the market, so they are open to helping people organize van drop off locations, places to sit, easy access to “double up bucks”, etc.

MI Bridges Benefit Applications Client Handout

Here’s a document to members with the MI Bridges Application. This form allows them to write down and organize their user id, password, secret question/answers and tracking number. Karen and I received this info. in a MI Bridges training session so I wasn’t sure if you all had it or not. I used it this morning and it helped immensely 🙂

Replacing Bridge Cards

In case a member ever asks for help to replace a worn, cracked Bridge card, it is best to advise them to spend the card down to the last penny, before you help them. It turns out that while a member is waiting for the new card to arrive in the mail, the card is deactivated, as if it was reported stolen. Any amount that was on the card will be carried over to the new card.
