AT&T phone service tips

Want to get some shortcuts for your AT&T phone service?  While planning for my PTO, with Matt subbing, he’ll  check messages for both Laura and myself, from Laura’s phone.  In my online search,  I learned some cool phone functions.  Also,  check out the attached shortcut, for listening to your messages.

AT&T Unified Messaging Functions

Call forwarding: From your phone, dial 72#, and the phone number that will receive the calls, and press #.

To end call forwarding, from your phone, just dial 73#

Checking messages from a different phone: You can access your   AT&T Unified Messaging mailbox from any touch-tone telephone, no matter   where you are, any time of day. You can use your wireless phone, your home   telephone, your office telephone or any pay telephone to access your mailbox.   Depending on where you’re calling from, local, toll or usage charges may   apply.

To access your AT&T Unified Messaging messages using a   phone:

Call your telephone number and dial * once the message begins   playing, and dial your pin number and pound sign.

Q: Some of my callers want to skip my greeting and     record their messages immediately. How can they do this?
A: Tell     your callers to press the # key when they hear your greeting. The greeting     will stop playing, and they’ll hear the record tone.

Urgent Message   Playback Options:

When   turned on, this feature lets you designate which types of urgent messages you   want to hear first upon accessing your mailbox over the telephone. By   choosing one of the message types, that particular message type, if marked   urgent by the sender, will be played ahead of any non-urgent messages.

MiCAFE Tip of the Week

Hello All! I recently encountered a problem with a MiCAFE application and received assistance from a representative and wanted to pass it your way.

I was trying to obtain access to an application that I previously was providing assistance with, but had not yet completed the application as of yet.  As I was in the process of inputting the member’s name and information (to log into their application), the website indicated that the application did not exist for this particular member.  The representative recommended simply inputting just the member’s social security number, instead all of the information requested.  After doing so,  I was able to access the application.  Hope this helps!  T

SCoop Facelift

Hello SCs- During our peer writing workshop last week, the SCs decided to add a category to the SCoop to share documentation samples and templates. It is under “Reference”/”Templates for Documentation.” We also added a few other changes to the SCoop menus and categories, including a special area to post Hannan Senior Classes (“Company News”/”Hannan News”/”Hannan Classes”), and renamed a few of the main menu items so that they are hopefully more user-friendly.

We plan to hold a hands-on tutorial in January 2013 to allow SCs the opportunity to become more familiar and comfortable with using the SCoop.  The date and time for the tutorial is yet to be determined, but it will correspond with our professional development training for the month. As always, we (Renee and Alexa) are open to any additional feedback that you may have to improve the SCoop.

Welcome Victoria!

Greetings All,
I’m pleased to report that Victoria Haltom, LLMSW, will be joining the Hannan Service Coordination Team on Monday, November 19th. Victoria will be working full time at Labelle Towers Co-op with Diane. I’ve attached an updated CSI SC contact list with her contact information (also on Shared Drive).
Victoria brings a creative background to the team, having worked as the Orchestra Director for two Detroit Metro School Districts, the Conductor of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony and as concert violinist for the Michigan Opera Theater! Most recently, Victoria has interned with Spectrum Human Services (including Operation ABLE) as part of her MSW program.
Please help us welcome Victoria to the Service Coordination Team. If you have an event at your Co-op or Village that you feel would be of interest as she conducts her orientation, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Social Security Offices to Shorten Hours

From AARP Blog:

You may want to call ahead to check the hours of operation if you’re planning to visit your local Social Security office anytime soon.

Beginning Monday, Nov. 19, the more than 1,200 field offices around the country will begin closing 30 minutes earlier. Generally, offices that are now open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. will close at 3 p.m.. Come January, they’ll begin closing at noon every Wednesday.

[Use AARP’s calculator to estimate your benefit.]

Budget cuts are to blame for the shortened hours.

According to Social Security spokeswoman Kia Green, closing the office to the public earlier will allow employees to work their regular hours and not rack up overtime.

Due to budget deadlocks, the federal government is now operating under a continuing resolution, which essentially extends the previous year’s levels of funding.

“We are operating on significantly less funding than either the agency or President Obama requested,” Green told AARP in an email.

During fiscal 2012, 20 field offices were consolidated; 11 were consolidated during the 2011 fiscal year. The 2013 fiscal year began on Oct. 1.

Some 182,000 people visit Social Security offices each day and about 445,000 call daily for assistance. With many baby boomers hitting Social Security eligibility age, these already astounding numbers are likely to continue to grow.

“You can imagine the level of frustration many folks will experience,” says Timothy Gearan, a senior legislative representative at AARP.

If the SSA “already isn’t meeting its stated goals for reducing the backlog on disability claims and not meeting targets for processing retirement claims, that will cause dissatisfaction to people who are entitled to prompt and efficient delivery of service,” he adds.

President Obama’s re-election, and the continuation of the Republican-dominated House, seem to suggest big challenges when it comes to budget resolutions. Congress faces sequestration — across-the-board cuts that affect many federal agencies including the SSA budget. Those cuts are scheduled to go into effect at the beginning of January if lawmakers fail to act.

Gearan says those budget cuts could force the SSA to shed as many as 2,000 jobs on top of the 7,000 jobs that were lost over the last few years.

“There’s got to be a breaking point somewhere in the next three weeks or three months or three years. That breaking point will come,” Gearan says.
